Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms Workshop

Learn how to grow several different types of specialty mushrooms in your own garden or woodlot using low-tech, low-cost methods.
Discussions will include biology and ecology of fungi in agriculture; using mushrooms for personal and ecological health; methods for cultivating shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane, reishi, and other mushrooms in wood, straw, and compost; harvesting techniques; and marketing. A hands-on mushroom log activity will prepare you to grow your own! There will be opportunities for tasting mushrooms. Attendees who choose to participate in citizen science research will receive free mushroom spawn.
Meet at the Frances Plecker Education Center. Dress accordingly for outdoor portion of the workshop.
